New website, new record....new lease on life.
IT'S OFFICIAL!! Our new record is out!! It was definately an odyssey to get it to this point, but everything we've done, at least we believe, was worth it. Here's a semi-short story of what is now...TURN OF THE RADIO AGE We actually started this record over a year and a half ago in Los Angeles at Ironworks studios (which is in reality, a posh museum-ish type recording studio that doubles as actor Keifer Sutherlands home). We spent our time there, poking and prodding at our record but never gelled with the enviroment or the people we were working with. Granted the producer we had in LA was a very credible guy with an endless amount of good records under his belt. He'd worked on some huge records and worked with some of the biggest bands in history. It was all very overwhelming for us since we're not much for posturing or name dropping. The LA recording scene was impressive but a bit uncomfortable for us. Moreover, we were slightly at odds with our producer over our vision of what we wanted our record to sound like. He had a very predetermined idea about our sound and wasn't all that flexible about it. Also, he was working with us practically pro-bono so he would take on other bigger jobs to make the big LA producer dollars throughout our recording sessions (hey, we understood, the guy had to make a living ..... that house he lived in was pretty snazzy). So this broke our sessions up to a week here, week there type format. We had short notice as to when he'd be back in town so we did whatever we could to try and make the most out of what little time we had to record up there. I swear half of our recording time was spent driving. All of this waiting, driving and recording a few days, driving back and then waiting for two weeks to do it again, definately was not ideal for anybody involved. So after months of driving up and back to and from and all around L.A, the record started to take it's toll on the band. The sounds coming from the speakers had morphed into something we couldn't recognize as our own. Everyone started to feel uncomfortable about it. The producer, all though we all liked him very much, seemed disconnected and preoccupied from the album as a whole. So, after a somewhat agreeable band meeting, we decided to abandon our Los Angeles recording sessions. Relieved but very dissapointed, we returned to San Diego with nothing to show for all of our time, effort and endless schmoozing with the affluent and influential A-listers of Los Angeles but a shitload of gas bills and some pictures of Kiefer Sutherlands guitar collection. So we took some time off from playing together to collect ourselves. After a couple of months, we started meeting for practice again. Playing together still felt really good and we we're pretty pissed off about the failure of the L.A. sessions so our practices were filled with an agressive energy that we all fed off of. We realized that we still needed to make this record. This time, we were going to do it our way, with someone we knew and trusted in our town with our own ideas and our own gear. So we enlisted the talents of Mr. Pall Jenkins of three mile pilot, black heart procession fame. Here was a guy who we all knew and respected and has made loads of records that we all listen to on a regular basis. We also liked his dark approach to production and thought it would be a nice match up with our current stable of songs. We started recording in late november, took all of december and the first half of january off, then finished tracking in march. The whole expirience was like night and day compared to the LA sessions. Pall is easy going and very fun to work with. We didn't leave any musical idea unexplored. At Pall's urging, we would track odds and ends of ideas we would have and sometimes they would work and sometimes they wouldn't. But the creative flow was amazing and we all felt so comfortable, the record really started to come together. We layed down 17 songs and when all was said and done, we settled on 12 tracks for the record (well 13 if you count the hidden track) We took the record to Joe Marlett (foo fighters, queens of the stone age) to mix and within a week of Joe finishing, we were driving to Los Angeles again..... only this time to get our record mastered. We finished it!!!!! All of our guts and most of our sanity went into every melody, note, beat, click and clack on TURN OF THE RADIO AGE. We all think this is our best album to date. We hope you will as well. --- hope to see you all out on tour... look for us on tour in your town soon!! --if you've lost concentration, if you don't pay attention, you might not even notice it's happening, and that would be the biggest loss of all. ----It's the turn of the radio age.

New record, new website, whew!!! - March 5, 2008
Sorry for being so out of touch, if we're not answering your e-mails or haven't returned your messages it's not because we don't care....we've been busy, very busy.
After endeavoring over our record for the last year, and making way too many trips back and forth to Los Angeles, and dealing with recording sessions we never finished. We basically got fed up with the big time Hollywood music business, our big time Hollywood producer and all the big time Hollywood people that were supposed to be helping us. We're in this to make music. Not a fashion statement or a trendy knock off of what’s in at the moment. That being said, we've regrouped and are finally ready to bring you the new BUCKFAST SUPERBEE record!!
We are well into our third week of recording at S.D.R.L. studios right here in our home town of San Diego. At the helm is a very talented Pall Jenkins of 3 mile pilot / Black Heart Procession fame. Things are going along famously at the moment and it's safe to say that after all this time, we are very exited to put these songs down ( there are 17 of them by the way, not all will make the record but look for them on soundtracks and b-sides). A safe estimate is that the recording will be done in late November / early December with an actual record in stores in early 2008. We apologize for all the confusion and waiting. We know a lot of you expected a record by now, but we didn't want to put anything out that we didn't believe in. Every last molecule of our battered souls and weary hearts is going in to these songs. Please understand that we want to give you our best, the best way we know how to......Honestly.
Thanks for all of your support and encouragement.
Look for us on tour in your town in 2008
sincerely,
BfSb
